I posted this in a thread and I think it got lost in the size of the thread. So I will post as a question to see if it might generate any interest. I'm looking for thoughts and comments. USA Today the Wednesday April 16 edition had a very interesting article about people switching faiths. Basically 16 percent of the population of America has switched. Most disturbing was the fact that of the 9.5 million Catholics that left Catholicism 29 percent now say they have no religion. I suspect it has to do with the way the Catholic church handles divorces. Baptist are second highest in the group with 4.6 million changing religion and 15 percent saying they have no religion. Also interesting if someone leaves a mainline denomination such as Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, they will more than likely become Baptist or Catholic. They then interviewed four people that were changing religions, A Catholic that became charismatic non denominational, A Catholic that became Lutheran, A Christian (? No denomination) that became Jewish, and Methodist that became Catholic. The Catholic said he was seeking the unfiltered gospel, in other words he didn’t want anyone telling him what to believe. The Christian that became a Jew could not accept that Jesus was the only way to salvation. The Catholic that became a Lutheran did it for two reason first she was divorced and second her new husband was Lutheran. Her statement was only a theologian could tell the difference between the two religions. Last was the Methodist that became Catholic, he did for the holiness and reverence. Also he mentioned the applicability to life of the teaching. He viewed Catholicism as very positive while Protestantism was telling what not to do. This is a general summation of the article and I tried to remain objective. EdB |

Edb, I just wanted to let you know that my quetions are not home work. I am a person thirsty to know God.(Psalms 63:1-7)These were some quetions That I had searched out but was not sure of or could not find the answer. I thougt this was a place I could get answers with out sarcasm. We as Christains have to be very careful how we approach people unless they are a demon spirit (1st John 4:1). We need to make sure we always walk in love(Leviticus 19:18). We never know who we are truning away from God and have to answer for it later. God Bless You Alwaysblessed |

Alwaysblessed, This post is in support of EdB. I, too, thought your questions looked like homework questions. When I first saw your questions, all in a row, with specifics like "give three characteristics", I checked your user profile and it looked like you had just joined this forum that day. Most people in this forum who are searching for answers give some sort of background information on their search, they don't just type in a question that looked like it came from a textbook. I am sure that if you had worded your questions differently, perhaps "what do you think is the most important characteristic of an apostle? My friend thinks it's proximity to Jesus, I think it is faith, what do the users on this forum think?" --- you would have gotten lots of great responses. Good luck in your search, reilly |

Alwaysblessed, This forum can be a good place to 'glean' information. It tends to carry a strong appearance of an chat room more than a Bible Study though, even though it should not. I encourage you to stay a while, and post one or two questions at a time. Although there are quite a few regulars, time is limited. Another good way is to type in keywords or specific scripture references and search previous threads. And look at the 'study tools'. God bless |
