I have been with and away from God in some rather extreme fashions for the last six years. I want to make the commitment, but it's so hard to find a niche for my personality and the motivation and determination to stay on the right path. Can anyone make suggestions as to how one is supposed to commit wholeheartedly to their Christian walk? Please help! | ||||||

Fred, The comittment needs to be made daily and you also need to daily examine your conscience. Beyond that, may I suggest you find a mature Christian man, who knows how to keep confidences, who can assist you. Use him as a prayer partner and a sounding board and as a person to whom you can be accountable. Meet with him weekly to examine your conscience and discuss the past week. Vices must be replaced by virtues which are the habitual practices of Christian life just as vices are the habitual practices of the sinful life. Nature abhors a vacuum and you cannot successfully stop practicing a vice without replacing it with the practice of its corresponding virtue. I hope this is of some help to you. Pray daily to God for His gift of grace and perseverance. No matter how often you fall, immediately get up, acknowledge your sin beg God's forgiveness and grace and you will persevere. Emmaus |

I am sure that Emmaus will give his own answer when he gets back to the Forum, but Paul gives a good list to the Galatians of vices and their opposites. Perhaps you could dwell on these... "Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law." --Galatians 5:19-23 The Holy Spirit produces the qualities on the second list in our lives, and the list serves as a "checklist" to if we are living in holiness. --Joe! |
