In the left side ou our screens is a TAKE A SURVEY. This survey has caused me to wonder about the many english translations there are for us today. I went to a Christian Book store last week, and There was only a couple of NKJV, and a few more NASB updated, lots of TNIV and NRSV and Living Bibles. Most all Bibles were in bonded leather or "leather like" These POP easy to read third grade level Bibles are being bought by adults! Is this what Pastors are teaching from now? After having the NASB updated I don't as often read my NIV, as I find it misses some words I wonder how they came up with the word. Has amy one else found this? Why do you think publishers have quit make Leather Bibles covers in quality translations? Thank you for your response. agape, Justme |

Hi there again, Justme! One of the obvious reasons many Bible publishers have gone to making junk copies of Bibles is the profit motive. They stick a Bible together with goo from a glue pot, instead of sewing it as of yore, and have the nerve to call it a "perfect" binding. They use ground-up scraps of leather, mix with them with paste and call the mess "genuine bonded leather." It's like watching a demolition derby to see whether the binding will come unglued first (and the pages come out in chunks) or the bonded leather cover will turn to powder first. There are a few publishers who still make quality Smyth-sewn, genuine leather Bibles. The Lockman Foundation press is one of them. Cambridge is another..... As to your question regarding whether preachers use the Living Bible, NRSV, or the TNIV in their pulpits -- oh, I hope not! But some probably do. If my pastor used any of the three in his preaching, I'd have myself a heart-to-heart talk with him, and quickly! --Hank

Hank: I pay more, but I have bought leather bibles, and use a product called INSTANT SHINE it is clear and keeps the leather plyable. Brfore thic product came out I used a product from KIWIE. I have some 25 year old bibles that still are very nice but show natural ware. Also Zondervan stii offers better grade Bibles, and Broadman. Most welll conctructed bibled offer a life time replacement against bad workmanship. I agree about pastors who use these child like versions. My NASB updated is the bets they make, and something about leather seems special for the Bjble. I have rebound a few bibles from the 1870's and it took several weeks of all my spare time. So I believe you are correct in saying that cheap Bibles are no bargan unless you are giving them away in mass.
