Justme and Jeshuafreak How did we get from Pentecostal/Charismatic to Word of Faith. Comparing Word of Faith to an authentic Pentecostal/Charismatic church is like comparing light to darkness. Yes most Word of Faith are Pentecostal but there the similarities end. Authentic Pentecostals believe in a sovereign God. A God that is to be worshipped. Word of Faith believe in a god that responds to their beck and call according to a “faith” formula they have developed. They have a god that they order around. Don’t confuse this issue by bringing in the false teachings of Word of Faith. EdB |

Edb. Perhaps you are unaware that the Pentecostal/Charismatic movements are positively both founded by the same founding Word of Faith Teachers. Some Charismatic churches have moved back to a more orthodox Christiamity. The pentencostal movement is as my note stated is in reality a Word-faith movement. Not everything these teachers expound is wrong. It is impossible to trace the authentic Pentecostal/Charismatic beginings, with out finding the founding leaders were, and still are Word-Faith teachers. I believe there are many devoted sincere true Christians within the Pentecostal/Charismatic churches. I aslo am convienced they are unaware of the movmemts cultic Theology. I think this is a very important topic, that has the potential to have feelings hurt, and anger flare up, rather than have tender kind dialogue take place. I am willing to dialogue but not argue. I am willing to listen and respond with respect and christian love be the center of our motive. But I will not intentional insult or degrade you as a person. If this is what you want, I would respond to you or anyone else, that agrees to the above. But I will respect, and show love, which I require in return. agape, justme |

Justme I sorry but I think you have some facts mixed up. The modern Pentecostal movement started at about the turn of the century, while Word of Faith began to rear it's ugly head around the 1960's. Word of Faith basically comes from the teaching of Hagin who basically copied the teaching of Kenyon and Bosworth. WoF is based on the metaphysical philosophy, in that something doesn't exist until you speak it into existence. Metaphysical teaching has been around all through history but it was Bosworth and later Kenyon who started to incorporate it into a religious setting. Hagin then copied their teaching into his WoF movement. To say Pentecostal and Word of Faith are the same would cause the Pentecostal founding fathers to roll over in their grave. Pentecostal is basically orthodox Christianity with the belief that the gifts of the Spirit I Cor. 12:7-13 function today and that they did not cease with the passing of the Apostles. WoF teaches that we speak thing s into existence and that God has to perform in a prescribed manner as we speak it. More importantly they believe that sickness, disease and even death does not occur until you speak it into existence. Other words what you say happens (God is forced to make it so). Example if your driving in a car and the car begins to slant down in the front and veer to the right everything is really fine, Satan is just trying to trick you into believing you have a flat right front tire. If you then say, “oh my I have a flat tire.” Then in fact the tire will be flat, however if you exercise your “faith’ and say, “there is nothing wrong with my car”. Then everything has to be made right. I will agree that many Pentecostal/Charismatic leaders today incorporate WoF teaching into theirs. These Pastors have been caught up in false teaching and therefore are not true representatives of the Pentecostal confession of faith. The Assemblies of God and Church of God two of the biggest mainline Pentecostal/Charismatic denominations have repeatedly issued statements concerning this issue in a effort to correct these wayward Pastors. These statements clearly declare WoF a false teaching. The Assemblies of God has published a "white paper" on the errors of Word of Faith. EdB |

Ed, thank you being a defender of the faith that orthodox "mainline" Pentecostals hold dear and for setting the record straight on the splinter groups -- the interlopers if we may so label them -- who pervert that faith and deceive with the addition of doctrines contrary to the Pentecostal tradition. The Pentecostals are by no means unique in having their tradition skewered and adultered by fringe groups. Unfortunately it is becoming increasingly the "normal" thing to embrace the "abnormal" and it shouldn't be necessary, but is, to step inside any congregation which calls itself Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist and so on and take a closer look at just what is going on inside their doors before taking the crucial step to join them in fellowship and support. --Hank | ||||||

Dear EdB, I too would agree with Hank in saying that most Pentacostal churches(Holiness, Church of God in Christ, House of God, etc) must cringe when they see their doctrines perverted by Copeland, Hagin, Crouch/Crouch and Hinn. I have a friend in Chattanooga who pastors a House of God church, and although their services are different from Baptists, Presbyterian, and Lutheran, they are carried out with a love for God, and adherence to the true Gospel message. Unlike some other denominations, they do believe in divine healing. However(correct me if I am wrong), it's not the "Get up out of your wheelchair and dance" type some TV preachers deal in. God does heal, but in HIS time, His way, if we truly belive, through prayer and fasting and laying on of hands. I doubt you would see G.E. Patterson carry out the same kind of shenanigans as Ernest Angley or Ken Copeland. Again, if anything I have said is anything short of the truth, do not be offended. Please correct any inaccuracies. Thank you, and God Bless!! Continue in praise, lifting up holy hands!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

2nd Samuel 22 Your right there is a very definite dividing line between Pentecostal and Word of Faith. As I said before Word of Faith is metaphysical, in that something simply doesn't exist until you speak it into existence, which is complete nonsense! As to healing, Pentecostals pray for healing and they expect God to heal ( to do otherwise would be double minded). However they understand God may heal miraculously and do it instantly, over a period of time, or even through a Doctor. Although there are some really strict sects of Pentecostal that refuse to use doctors. Most also believe God is sovereign and may withhold healing, again there are some sects that refuse to accept this. Pentecostalism has gotten a black eye from the old miracle healing preachers and now from the name and claim it, life is a bowl of cherries TV evangelist. If you listen long enough you will hear them contradict themselves and each other. Basically they will say or do anything to get the faith “seed” in. Don’t get me started!! EdB |
