1 | Did Satan know God's plan for salvation | Bible general Archive 1 | Hecameforu | 33255 | ||
I respectfully disagree Curt, Yes Satan was "kind of" quoting scripture. He left out "to keep you in all your ways" Psalm 91:11-12. and Satan was saying 'if' you are the son of God. The question was did Satan know God's plan for Salvation and the answer is no, he did not. Sure he knew something was up but the Devil can "quote" scripture all he wants but he does not know their meaning, and he does not know the mysteries of the word, especially God's plan of redemption through Jesus Christ. Jesus' resurrection and his ascending into heaven. He hadn't a clue. 1 Corinthians 2:7 "But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory". Colossians 1:26 "Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints". Romans 16:25 "Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began". 1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory." Let me begin by saying that I am not trying too hard to argue this point... I have entered the fray to try and learn from the discussion. I do believe it is a stretch to say conclusively that Satan did not know God's plan for salvation. The best I can come to, after reading you posts and giving consideration, is that I don't know for sure. Let me respond individually to the Scriptures you quote: 1 Corinthians 2:7 Paul here is speaking about wisdom which was hidden from men. The very next verse says, "None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory". Does not this verse refer to men? Thus, in my view, it does not confirm nor deny Satan's knowledge. Colossians 1:26 Again, the same thought... "the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints." refers to man's knowledge of God's plan. Romans 16:25 "Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began". ... "now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all nations might believe and obey him." Same thought. 1 Timothy 3:16 Not sure how you meant to apply this Scripture to your point. Let me postulate a few somewhat rhetorical questions: If Satan did not fully understand the diety of Christ, does this not excuse Satan for being wrong? Can Satan be the "father of the lie" if he does not know and understand the truth to be truth? What does James 2:19 mean, if it does not mean that Satan and his minions have intellectual knowledge of Christ? In Genesis, did the serpent know that he was telling a lie to Eve? How did he know? Why did Satan offer Jesus rule over all kingdoms of the earth if He would deny the Father? Is it possible that Satan had intellectual knowledge, but that his fallenness was in his failure to worship God? Do you think Satan now knows and understands God's plan for salvation? Thanks for jousting with me. Its an interesting question, for sure. Curt |

There's that anointing! Praise the Lord, good post Curt, but anyway I just wanted to say of COURSE satan KNEW the plan for salvation, that's why he was trying to kill all the first born male children all along in the O.T.(he was looking for the Messiah) and up to when Jesus was born. That's why he's still trying to kill the message of salvation through ignorance (darkness) Thank God for the Light (knowledge) that he brought into the world. "That's why he's still trying to kill the message of salvation through ignorance (darkness)". He(Satan) is, stll trying to kill the message because NOW he knows and he wants to keep as many people out of Heaven and take them with him to the Lake of fire as he possibly can. As Norrie stated...... I will ask you .... why have Jesus crucified(of all deaths)if he knew what was going to happen? Why not just have him stoned to death? |

Hello, You asked, "Why not just have him stoned to death?" The answer has to do with the messianic prophecies and the sacrificial laws. The Prophets clearly speak of the Messiah being Crucified some 500 years before the Romans invented crucifixion. Second, the Sacrifical Laws state that the Sacrifice is to be slain, not stoned. The Blood needed to be shed in order for the Sacrifice to be lawful. The way to accomplish that in Jesus' time was through him being crucified. On top of that, you have the humiliation, pain, and torment that Jesus went through. Jesus had to suffer the payment of the cumulated total of the sins of the entire world throughout history. Stoning wouldn't have even scratched the surface. Jesus Loves You! Jesusman |
