Tennessee Preacher: Crackpot theories about creaton have indeed been tossed around on the forum, the Lost Civilization of Atlantis myth being one of the milder forms of the disease :-) If someone posted that God created the earth during a baseball game (in the big innining), it would come as no great shock. When it comes to God's word, I do not like to deal in myth, theory, or speculation -- nothing beyond what the word of God reveals. If we knew in minute detail all the facts of creation, what does it profit us if we don't know what we must do to be saved? Moreover, the angels may be running around heaven in tennis shoes this very night and playing leap-frog for all I know, but it is still more important for me to let the angels do whatever angels do and concentrate on trying to lead a lost soul to Christ. My point: What is the call for the Christian, to theorize about what God has not revealed to us, or to let his light shine in the world so that others may see his good works and glorify God? --Hank | ||||||

Greetings, Hank; You wisely said "If we knew in minute detail all the facts of creation, what does it profit us if we don't know what we must do to be saved?" I know that statement reveals wisdom because it's a point I've often tried to make. ;-) The proper understanding of Genesis 1 is a great topic for (sometimes heated) debate among saved Christians. But it's a discussion that should be conducted carefully outside the Body. I shudder to think how many unbelievers remain lost because some faithful witness was more interested in preaching literal creationism than salvation in Christ. I don't intend to get that whole debate started again. I just wanted to commend you for giving us a reminder that "What must I do to be saved?" is a much more important question than "How old is the Universe?". Peace and grace Steve aka Indiana Jones |
