First, may I ask, what is your object for wearing the cross? CDBJ

CDBJ, I'm puzzled about why you asked Tray's object in wearing a necklace with a cross on it instead of answering Tray's question. Have I missed something here -- may there be perhaps sinister reasons for wearing a cross? This is neither to ridicule or accuse, but I'm keenly curious and want to learn. --Hank

Well since I don't know tray or for what reason it is being worn it makes a big difference. I have run into all kinds and I say this with all due respect. If I say sure that would be nice and it would look nice on them. They might come back and say that the bigger the better for spirit protection. And if it is pure silver it can ward off almost anything. After you experience a few of these, one has a tendency to get the facts before sticking his neck and giving a quote from the Bible. With out elaborating and naming the group that puts a lot of faith in a peace of blessed hand made metal, do you get the picture? I know bunches from my past!! I hope this clears it up, CDBJ

Thanks, CDBJ, for your enlightenment. Wow, what a complex world we live in these days. I show my age, I suppose, by being naively unaware of some of these goings on today. How much simpler life was when I was young, in those "good old days" of yore! But I trust that Tray's motive was pure and based my answer on that assumption. Thanks again and God bless. --Hank

My best friend's son whom I have been witnessing to, and seems to be somewhat receptive, rode a motorcycle over to our local gun club the other day. First you must realize that his new wife, of one year, is a Christian. She has contacted me about explaining the way of salvation to her husband. I didn't even know that she was a believer until she called my wife one morning. The way that I found out was that I had given her husband a paper that I had written on the subject of salvation; he read it and laid it down where she found it and called our house the next day all excited about what I had given her husband. Well to make a long story short, I thought that my friend's son was starting to understand what it meant to completely trust in Jesus and commit his life to Christ keeping, until he rode in to the club on his motorcycle with a big Saint somebody metal on his jacket. When I ask him what it was for, acting as though I didn't know, he said that it was to keep him safe while riding his bike. To me it was like a miniature of what Paul must have experienced, Galatians 4:11 I fear for you, that perhaps I have labored over you in vain. (NASB) I don't know if you have ever heard the story about the time when a drunk staggered up to D.L. Moody and said, hay, I'm one of your converts!! Moody looked at him and said, yes you can surely tell that you are one of mine all right; you sure don't look like one of the Lord's! My primary goal, whenever I meet someone, is to determine if they are a born again Christian. If they are, it starts a time of fellowship, if they aren't; my main object is to find the opportunity and a good time to explain the way of salvation to them without being obnoxious. One must be very cautious that they don't muddy up the water. I have meet a lot of believers that love the Lord and they are very bold, to the point that they are a turn off. Jesus always asks a lot of questions and He never forced Himself on anyone. Sometimes I brake out in a cold sweet when witnessing to someone for fear that I will mess up. The last thing I want to do is to turn someone off about the Lord! I try to be ready to answer everyone who asks me for a reason for the hope that I have in Christ. Well Hank, (now you know the rest of the story.) CDBJ |

Thank you, CDBJ, (alias Paul Harvey?) for "the rest of the story" and an interesting story it is and well worth sharing on the forum. And now, more than ever, I understand the basis for your inquiry of the inquirer who asked about the propriety of wearing a necklace with a cross attached. And if the cross were to be worn, not as merely being a simple testimony to our Lord, but as a talisman to ward off the Evil One, then it smacks of the occult and I'd be in total disfavor of wearing it. Thanks for your fine posting. And, oh yes, I loved your anecdote featuring the drunk and D.L.Moody. --Hank
