Greetings OneWayTriple, Here's a little about the Book of Mormon. I will examine just a few of the many facts that disqualify the Book of Mormon from being seriously considered as a revelation from God.. Claim: Joseph Smith translated alleged gold plates by the power of God using divine implements called the Urim and Thummim.. Reality: The Book of Mormon was actually produced through psychic methods and has nothing to do with ancient history. It is merely a product of nineteenth-century occultism. (1) Claim: The Book of Mormon claims to be a translation of ancient historical records that date long before Joseph Smith lived.. Reality: How likely is it that Jewish writers between 600 B.C.-A.D. 421 would discuss the social and religious issues common to nineteenth-century Christian America? Historical documents prove that when Smith wrote the Book of Mormon, he was only engaging in his usual practice of crystal gazing. The testimonies of David Whitmer, Emma Smith (one of Joseph Smith's wives), and William Smith (Joseph's brother) make this clear. Not a shred of archaeological evidence exists to support any historical longevity or antiquity of existence for the Book of Mormon. (1) Claim: The Mormon church claims that the Book of Mormon contains basic, fundamental Mormon teachings. Reality: Mormon teachings are not principally derived from the Book of Mormon, but from another Mormon 'scripture': "Doctrine and Covenants." The Book of Mormon has little bearing upon current Mormon doctrine. (1) Claim: Mormons repeatedly claim that their scriptures are not contradictory. Reality: When one examines and compares early and modern Mormon teachings, they discover clear doctrinal contradictions on many key issues. Because Mormon theology is replete with contradictions, the Mormon church has attempted to suppress information that it has found embarrassing. A more serious problem is the clear contradiction of Mormon doctrine to that of the Holy Bible, and I could cite hundreds of contrasts to that effect.
