1 | why was the Bible not added to in 2000yr | Rev 22:18 | Chris S Ainsworth | 10680
when were all the books of the Bible incorporated together and what practical reason does anyone have for why the Bible ends with the book of Revelations? i know that there are certain scriptures saying that the Bible should not be added to, but surely at some point over the last 2000 years, someone has thought to add to the Bible; i mean did all the good works and travelling and work done to God's name stop?

Chris, The simple answer is that God is the author (2Ti 3:16), so man cannot add to the Word, because he thinks he has something to add. God's name has not stop. It is bring brought to unreached people, including young poeple. The Old Testament was closed with Malachi. I think Jesus sealed it (Mat 5:17-19). Some say evidence points to the completion of the OT canon by a Synod at Jabneh (or Jamnia) between 90 and 100 A.D. The the councils of Hippo (393 AD) and Carthage (397 AD), ratified the New Testament canon in its present form. Steve |

"22:18 For similar OT warnings against additions or omissions, see Deut. 4:2; 12:32; Prov. 30:6." (Ryrie Study Bible) "22:18-19 Early Christian writers understood these verses as warnings to false teachers who would tamper with or alter the content of the Apocalypse. Such individuals by their actions reveal their unregenerate state and, therefore, are cursed with judgment (v. 18) and excluded from heaven (v. 19)." (Believer's Study Bible) "22:18-19 The author’s warning against revision of his work. 22:19 This prophecy this book. I.e. Revelation itself." (The Cambridge Annotated Study Bible) "REVELATION 22:18-19 Holy Scripture, Inspired—The God who breathed into each of His messengers the words of revelation declared that no one is to add to or take from the words of God. They are subject to God’s intervention if they do. The revelation of God is not to be altered, tampered with, or distorted, for it is an extension of God Himself, even as Jesus Christ is the Word made flesh. The Book of Revelation is thus consciously presented as sacred Scripture (Dt 4:2; 12:32)." (Disciple's Study Bible) "22:18, 19 The Book of Revelation was intended to be heard and obeyed (v. 7; 1:3), not tampered with. The person who either adds to or takes away from its contents will receive from God the strictest punishment, a punishment with eternal consequences. This terrifying warning is even stronger than that of Deut. 4:2 and Prov. 30:6." (The Nelson NKJV Study Bible) |
