1 | Is this taken out of context? | 1 John 1:9 | reedera4 | 211695
Is this the only verse that exists regarding this subject? And are you saying this verse implies that after my acceptance of Christ I do not have to ask for forgiveness ever again for any sin I commit?

3 | I'm Confused! | 1 John 1:9 | reedera4 | 211715
The first (Luke 18:10-14) tells me to pray humbly, the second tells me that Christ. the sinless one, speaks in my defense. But none of these really answers my question. I was raised to believe that if I sin, I should ask forgiveness - each time - even if I've committed it before. Now I'm being told I should not do this. If I ask forgiveness each time, am I making my Heavenly Father angry? There doesn't seem to be anything that pinpoints this subject and I don't want it to be a "whatever floats your boat" decision. For the first time in a long time I am very confused about the Word!

Shalom Reedera, Maybe I can help clear this up for you? When you first come to your Lord, you come as a sinner, with no hope, no home, no heritage. You were born in sin, lived in sin. He takes you and does more than just clean you up, He makes you completely new, totally whole, the way Adam was before he fell from grace. That is the only time you will come before the Throne of God as a sinner. You were forgiven for being a sinner, not for individual sins (wrongs) committed (though that is included). Now, as a child of God, fully capable of walking in the Spirit but also quite human, you make mistakes, do things you know you shouldn't. These are sins that need to be taken care of by admitting them and by asking and receiving forgiveness for them. If you don't? You won't go to hell, God won't turn His back on you, but you yourself will begin to dwell on your shortcomings and that will eventually affect your fellowship with the Father and with your fellow believers. I hope this helped a little bit :o) Cheri |

5 | I'm Confused! | 1 John 1:9 | RangerRick | 211752
When you ask forgiveness daily it is the same as the washing of the dust off your feet from walking in this sin filled world. You do wash your feet before you go to bed don't you? Same thing for the spirit. If you are saved and have the Holy Ghost you should know almost immediatley when you sin against God and that should produceconviction which should produce repentance which should produce asking for forgiveness. If it doesn't then you have a problem. What if you did something that hurt your earthly father? Would you apologize? Yes. Some of this is not Rocket science...no...most of this is not rocket science a simple prayer at the end of the day that will not make ayone angry is Lord forgive me of anything I have said or done that is not like you. That is open honest and genuine.
