Scripture ... 1 John 3:4, 7, 8, 9 ... I see "practices sin" in these verses. Read the rest of the posts on these verses, and other verses for this chapter. How do YOU handle 1 John 1:8? |

I believe that 1 John 1:8 means that we must repent in order to become saved. Many who are raised in the church are not saved and that is because they think they are righteous because they think they are living up to the standards of their given denomination - one which they may have been born into. Unless we come to a realization that we cannot live up to God's standard, we will feel no need to repent of anything. We will be under the delusion that we are righteous. It says in John 6:44 that unless the Father draws a person to Himself, they cannot come and it is the Holy Spirit who helps us realize our need to repent. We who are saved have realized that we fall short [Romans 3:23]of God's perfection and have turned away from our sins in order to walk with the Lord. Those who have sincerely done this, walk in the righteousness of Christ [Romans 3:22][Heb. 7:26; 2 Cor. 5:21]. You may see "practices sin" in these verses and I think that really is the same in the sense that if a person hasn't come to an awakening that they need to repent, they obviously will continue to "practice sin." This is what I think of 1 John 1:8 and I hope this is of some help. Itiswritten. |

My final breath on this is to you and pete ... 1 John is written to believers (prove otherwise) ... some were claiming they didn't sin. John was telling what that meant. Paul aslo struggled with sin (Rom 7:14ff). Seracher |
