1 | Does sin break fellowship with God ? | 1 John 1:7 | christian1 | 137651
When we sin do we break fellowship with God? More specifically-if we sin does God break fellowship with us always or does the blood of Jesus cover our sin so that fellowship remains. I am not talking about clearcut unrepentant sin. I am specifically looking for answers concerning ALL sin even sins of omission. Verses?
2 | Does sin break fellowship with God ? | 1 John 1:7 | kalos | 137652
"Sin interrupts fellowship but cannot change relationship." But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:7 (KJV) 'Walking in the light is explained in 1 John 1:8-10; Eph. 5:13. Through the Word of God the indwelling Holy Spirit shows the Christian that he (1) still possesses an old nature (v. 8), and (2) needs the forgiveness of his sins (vv. 9-10). The blood of Christ is the divine provision for both. To walk in the light is to live in fellowship with the Father and the Son. 'Sin interrupts fellowship but cannot change relationship. Confession restores fellowship and immediate confession keeps the fellowship unbroken.' ____________________ Note at 1 John 1:7. New Scofield Reference Bible, Oxford University Press, 1967. |

Greetings Kalos, I was just reading and reflecting on 1 John 1:7 today. I so appreciate your answer: 'Sin interrupts fellowship but cannot change relationship. Confession restores fellowship and immediate confession keeps the fellowship unbroken.' Oh that we would recognize this effectiveness of this in our relationships with others as well! Sadly, with others, sin often changes relationship. How thankful I am that God has already forgiven all of my sin! Reading this verse "in context" reminds me that it is all about God, but I "had" seen this verse in the context of the church, iow, the "one another" was other believers. How easily we can take the focus off of God, even when we read the Bible! My fellowship with others is dependent upon the other's response to me. My relationship and fellowship with God is a sure thing on His part - I know how He will respond to me; my relationship is secure(John 17:13-26) - yet (1 John 1:7-9) my fellowship with Him is dependent upon MY response to Him. I have a choice of where to walk.(Can two walk together unless they be agreed?) Thanks again for pointing out the difference between relationship and fellowship! May we both enjoy the blessings of walking in the Light! mommapbs |
