Hi, LIVERIGHT! Some would argue that once born again (saved) you will meet with Jesus no matter what! Personally? I have not found any Scripture that tells us that... quite the opposite, we are warned by Jesus not to do as we please because the day and hour when we will face Him is not known to us! We are warned by Scripture that the wages for sin is death: For the wage paid by sin is death; the gift freely given by is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23) This Scriptural passage, as well as any other promising Life, is clear: we are to die due to sin; we are to receive life in Christ Jesus... but receiving life in Jesus does not mean that we can chant a clause in Scripture that will secure that Life! As the old saying goes, "talk the talk, walk the walk!" We are not to hold on to the ways of the world and cite Scripture to justify our rebelliousness: Something which has existed since the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our own eyes, which we have watched and touched with our own hands, the Word of life-- this is our theme. That life was made visible; we saw it and are giving our testimony, declaring to you the eternal life, which was present to the Father and has been revealed to us. We are declaring to you what we have seen and heard, so that you too may share our life. Our life is shared with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. We are writing this to you so that our joy may be complete. This is what we have heard from him and are declaring to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. If we say that we share in God's life while we are living in darkness, we are lying, because we are not living the truth. But if we live in light, as he is in light, we have a share in another's life, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we say, 'We have no sin,' we are deceiving ourselves, and truth has no place in us; if we acknowledge our sins, he is trustworthy and upright, so that he will forgive our sins and will cleanse us from all evil. If we say, 'We have never sinned,' we make him a liar, and his word has no place in us. (1 John 1:1-10) Salvation (Grace), is not a matter of citing the Bible... Satan cited Scriture to Jesus... yet he rejected God's Authority! Jesus warns that it is not those who claim to know Him that will be saved but those who humbly obey! (Matthew 7:21-27; Luke 6:46) James puts it in a different but congruent view: But you must do what the Word tells you and not just listen to it and deceive yourselves. (James 1:22) By Grace we are given the Gift of Life... alas, not all believe and humbly obey! (John 3:19) We can claim to be saved till Jesus' Return... But Jesus did not call us to repent and continue a life of sin... He called us to acknowledge our sin, to turn back to God and to abide in Him! If we die in a state of sin, it is the Holy Spirit who will convict us of our Salvation or damnation--surely, we will be called to reject sin and not to choose to, stubbornly, embrace our rebellious acts! God Bless! Angel |
