Dear CDBJ, Thank you for your honest opinion. You state,"I believe that the Bible should be interpreted at face value and that we should try to understand what the author is trying to convey." If we interpret at face value the following, Luke 14:26 26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. KJV At a face value understanding of the above verse one might think Jesus is saying you cannot be my disciple unless you hate yourself and everyone you know. This of course is not the understanding implied by Jesus but could be misconstrued if accepted at face value.
