1 | does baptism save us? 1Pet.3:21 | 1 Pet 3:21 | movingdoll | 45623
I was once a member of a fellowship that believe that one isn't born again until they are baptised. They used this verse to support their belief. However, I believe that we are saved by the Grace of God. Paul says it is not of works that we are saved lest we should boast. But I cannot ignore this scripture. Can anyone please explain?

Romans 6 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. The Apostle is not speaking of the physical act of sinking into the water and coming out. We are to have faith in Christ's finished work, his death on the cross, as the only way of salvation. When we exhibit faith in Christ and what He did for us at the Cross for our salvation, we are then "baptized into his death", and that is the only way to be saved! We are baptized into his death, and raised WITH HIM in newness of life. A/K/A "born again" Praise God! |
