this is what i think about the question; yeah that is true...but see this. Jesus said to GOd..."why has thou forsaken me"? When Jesus was on that cross..., GOd put every sin on him. ANd remember that God said that his eyes can not behold sin. So that means that God was not with him on that cross. That was when Jesus died a spiritual death...when God left him. Remember that what God considers a dead spirit is a spirit without the life of God: which Jesus lacked there on that cross. He was sin himself....not even a sinner. He was SIN. So when Jesus died that day...there was a celebration in hell because he was a captive of the devil. But God must fulfill his word... cos he said that he will not let his holy one see decay(Jesus' flesh). So GOd came to his aid in hell. THat was when Jesus triumphed over the devil and made a show of him openly in hell. He couldn't do that until God came to his aid and strengthened him . GOd gave him a new spirit....That was why the bibles says that he was the first begotten...and many more will join him as his brothers. It's hard to believe...but when GOd came for him in hell, Jesus was born again. He was the first to be born again. That's why the bible refers to him as the first fruit from the dead (spiritual death). He was born again...that's why the apostles could not recognize him..., It was not the same that died that resurrected. He was the ressurected Jesus. And even read the book of psalms24vs7 and you'll see that even when Jesus went up to heaven, the angels at the gates could not recognise him. Why is this...? Because He was a brand new spirit. That's what happens when we are born again. God gives us a new spirit and takes the sinful one away. I know it's kind of deep...but it's true. Jesus died two death on that cross. If the word of GOd is true then he died both deaths. |

Speakdtruth, I really like your answer to I think it was your question also. I have a friend whom belong to Jehovas Witnessess, and thier beleived that Jesus Christ Died both Body and Spirit. I would like to take this opportunity to raise this question for you and I am very greatful if you can explain my querry. First of all I would like to know if for you is the death of spirit of Jesus Christ, meaning no existence? My question are: If the spirit of Jesus Christ died how he can he preach in hell? 1Pe 3:18 ΒΆ For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 18. 1Pe 3:19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Also it was mentioned that God cast angels into hell: 2Pe 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; If Jesus Christ did not exist when He decended to hell? why the rich man exist. I dont think Jesus Christ will teach different from reality? Here in the next passages, in the parables of Jesus Christ when the rich man died he tormented in hell, meaning he exist there because he feel the fire of hell? Lu 16:22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 22. Lu 16:23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 23. Lu 16:24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. It is not a debate, I am also sometimes tormented to this kind of circumstances. speak the truth, Johnny |

I think that there is something that is being missed when one considers the word death in the Bible. The Greek language of the New Testament uses the word (THANATOS) and a good explanation for thanatos, would be separation. Psychical thanatos meant that your soul separated form your body. Spiritual death meant that you are separated from God. It doesn't mean that there is no more existence, as is commonly the case in the understanding of the English language. Quite the contrary is true; everyone is going to live forever in one place or the other and be conscious that they are there. Luke 16:19-31 The individual that Jesus was speaking of was in all probability a real person, as Christ never used a proper noun in His parables. It is interesting to note the senses that were functioning in this individual, whose body was gone. The only one not mentioned was the sense of smell. Luke 16:19-31 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. 27Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: 28For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. I don't know if this helps but it will give something to think about. CDBJ |

Jesus did have a spirit; He commended it to the Father. The word commended is a verb indicative, present, middle 1st person singular of the word paratathemai. The indicative mood is the mood of reality or certainty; the present tense is generally continues action at present time, in the middle voice the subject Jesus participates in the result of the action. He was committing the guarding of His spirit to the father for safekeeping. When God told Adam that he was going to die the very day that he would eat of forbidden fruit, what died? He was body, soul and spirit from the beginning. What did Jesus mean when He said that a man must be born again? John 3:5-9 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. 9Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? It appears that I got along for twenty seven years with out a my spirit being connected to God; But I had no communication in any of my earlier years. |
