1 | What if the man is already married? | Deut 22:29 | kalos | 169647 | ||
Gengreen: If the man is married to another woman when he commits this violation of the virgin, then he is guilty of breaking a different law: Thou shalt not commit adultery (Ex 20:14). The death penalty applies to the man. The man has committed adultery, regardless of whether the virgin was betrothed or not. As to his obligation to the woman or her father, I'm not aware of a law requiring a man to make restitution before he is executed. If he doesn't make restitution, what are they going to do about it -- kill him twice? So the case of an unmarried man is addressed in Deuteronomy 22:28-29. The case of a married man is addressed in Exodus 20:14. Grace to you, Kalos |
