1 | Secular Humanism: Man Centered | James 5:5 | DocTrinsograce | 200000
"Secular humanism, you see, is very man-centered. It encourages every individual to regard his or her own personal happiness as the supreme value. And the kind of evangelical religion which does not challenge this self-centered, self-absorbed standpoint, but, rather, reinforces it by making one's religious experience the most important thing in the world, or God's gift of personal contentment, happiness, joy, good feelings, or that kind of thing, is simply echoing the tenets of this type of modern humanism. A Reformational emphasis, however, challenges this by asserting that God is the center, not man. We must recognize that He is at the heart of things and that we exist for His glory, that is to say, we exist for Him, not He for us. And it is only as we set ourselves to glorify Him as the one who supremely matters that we are going to enter into the joy and fulfillment which being a Christian brings." --J. I. Packer
2 | Secular Humanism: Man Centered | James 5:5 | CDBJ | 200012
Hi Doc, Your post is very pertinent for today! The way I see it, Secular Humanism, by what ever color people try to paint it as a disguise these days still always seems to bleed through to the top and show up in “opposition” to the work of God that was accomplished in Christ. Where the problem comes in is that the average believer, now days, doesn’t have enough knowledge of Bible doctrine to differentiate between truth and error coming from pulpits. Ephes. 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; Good post and the proper perspective for many of the "mega churches" that are taking hold of the masses in the USA today. They might even be clearer defined as “Religious Secular Humanistic Social Clutches”. CDBJ |
