Greetings Kmynns! According to James 5:16, "The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much." Does this mean that only the prayers of the righteous can accomplish much or be heard? 2 Chronicles 33:12-13 proves that answered prayer is not reserved for specific people; if the wicked king Manasseh could cry out to God and be heard, surely that means that God does not limit 'answers to prayer' only to the redeemed. Surely, we all came to God as sinners, giving Him our lives in faith and prayer, and He has answered our prayers by forgiving us and redeeming us out of sin. For examples on how God has answered prayer, go to Daniel 9; Exodus 15:24-25; Numbers 27:15-17; Nehemiah 1:4-11; Psalm 51; Genesis 32:9-12 and 33; Psalm 57,142; Acts 4:13-31; Matt. 15:21-28; James 5:17-18; John 14:13-14. However, God does not answer any and every prayer as the one praying would like. Consider Paul (2 Cor. 12:7-10). This passage proves that God is not a celestial bellhop waiting at our beck and call. Even so, God delights in His children developing the habit and freedom of asking Him for help (Luke 11:9-10). God does not rely on us to define our needs or say when or how He should act. God does that for us- which is just as well since He is all-wise. Our calling, then, is to pray- even persistently- and grow in the process. Blessings to you, Makarios |
