2 | Friendship w/ the world Is hating God? | James 4:4 | Makarios | 12527 | ||
"4:4 adulteresses. Symbolic language for unfaithful people, as often in the OT. friendship with the world. The Greek word is 'philia', indicating a reciprocal relationship. Unfaithful people love the world, and the world loves them." (Ryrie's Study Bible) Yes, the Bible teaches that God loves the world (John 3:16).. He loves the world (as in: the PEOPLE of the world).. He does not always love the actions of those people or what they do, and many times the actions that are done in the world (Gal. 5:19-21)by PEOPLE are signifying "friendship" with satan rather than God. Therefore, we must 'signify' that we are friends of God by acting like the people of God (Gal. 5:22-26) rather then the characteristics of the world. --Nolan |
