1 | Wrong motives and/or wrong things? | James 4:3 | Mommapbs | 82905
When we ask God for something and we don't get what we want is it because our motives are wrong or do we want the wrong thing? Is wanting the wrong thing the same as having a wrong motive? How does one avoid "wrong motives?" How does one align himself as Jesus did when He said, "Not My will but Thy will be done."? (Luke 22:42) PS:Does anyone know who said: "Disappointment is God's hint that He has something better in mind?" |

2 | Wrong motives and/or wrong things? | James 4:3 | Hank | 82914
Hello again, Mommapbs. Proving once again that we finite human beings are much prone to error (as if it needed proof), I wish to correct a typo of my former post in which the phrase "the heals of" should read "the heels of." I'm confident that you and other of my erudite friends will agree to the trickiness of this English language we grapple with day by day. On the bottom of our shoes we have heels and soles, which isn't particularly remarkable. But we also hold that Christ heals lost souls, which is remarkable. :-) --Hank
3 | Wrong motives and/or wrong things? | James 4:3 | Mommapbs | 83016
Hi Hank - thanks for the response. Romans 8:26-27 is a great comfort as I consider how inadequate and selfish my prayers often are! Thanks for reminding me that Jesus gave us instruction in prayer as well as an example. "Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven." Does this require one to have absolute trust in the sovereignty of God? All too often I think that we just repeat these memorized words without understanding what we are really asking!
