1 | SOUL AND SPIRIT | James 2:26 | aprilrose | 39
In 1 Thessalonians 5:23 God's word tells us that man has a body a soul and a spirit. The spirit is the part of us that makes the difference between us and animals. It enables us to have a relationship with God, who is spirit. (John 4:24) This verse further states He must be worshiped in spirit and in truth. The spirit is what enables us to reason and know. It is the intellectual part. It is this part that makes us responsible for responding to God's provision of salvation in Jesus. The soul is what makes the difference physical life and death. The soul is the seat of our emotions, feelings and wants or desires. Humans have 3 parts: body, soul and spirit. Angels are spirits and animals have body and soul only. My understanding of this subject has been deepened by WHAT THE BIBLE TEACHES which is an Emmaus Bible commentary Published by Emmaus Bible College is Dubuque, Iowa. |

2 | SOUL AND SPIRIT | James 2:26 | davidjensen | 7537
Galatians says we have a spirit to wage war against the flesh, for the things of the spirit are set against the things of the flesh. Our human spirit was given to commune with God's Holy Spirit, and to have knowledge of God's directives for us by the "holy hunch" or intuition we become consciously aware of by the properties of our mind. Our mind is a part of the soul, or self, where things spiritual meet the flesh. The soul is not only the seat of our desires, feelings, and emotions, but the soul also includes our mind. Our mind allows us to think, know, reason, remember, and to be conscious. Thus, man's spirit is not our intellectual being; that is the role of our mind. The Bible teaches that the mind is a battleground, where the will of God and the will of Satan compete for access to the will of man. |
