1 | Original source of "Sin begets sin"? | James 1:13 | Searcher56 | 182368
God's day to you, bulldog2k, Are asking if "sin begets sin" means if we sin we repeat it or it leads us to commit other sins. The latter is seen in David and Bathsheba (2 Sam 11). When he saw her he could of walked away, but the sin of lust, coveting, then adultery caused him to murder. One point the conception and birth of the baby was sparked by God, so we better never condemn that, nor when an unwed woman gets pregnant. The sin is sex outsde of marriage. James 1:13-16 talks about being tempted, on the heels of trials in the previous verses, including asking God for widom to deal with the trials. When we are tempted to sin, our "conscience" should say - scream NO!!!! Then if we sin, it should bother us. If it doesn't it is easier to give in. This point may not be proven in the Bible, but I believe is a fact. In Romans 1, God talks about those who are lost in the downward spiral. I hope this helps. Searcher |

Thanks for the detailed reply - I was really wondering, though, whether the phrase "sin begets sin" is a literal quotation from the bible? Or does it stem from another source?

The phrase "sin begets sin" probably stems from an extra-biblical source. I ran the words through a Bible search engine, a concordance and I even tried to google it, but came up empty as far as a Biblical reference is concerned. Machaira |
