2 | Today, Christians are Israel | Heb 8:8 | Val | 193665
Doc, the nation of Israel and the church are two seperate groups. The church has not replaced the nation of Israel. There are promises that God has made to the nation of Israel that He has not made to the church. Could we discuss one passsage of scripture to make it simpler and easier in this forum if you like. You chose. Respectfully submitted.
3 | Today, Christians are Israel | Heb 8:8 | DocTrinsograce | 193670
Dear Val, Just like a branch and the trunk are two separate things, nevertheless they represent a single tree. We would never say the branch has replaced the trunk. Trunks and branches fulfill their purpose in specific ways, but they do so in the unity of function of a whole tree. If the dough offered as firstfruits is holy, so is the whole lump, and if the root is holy, so are the branches. But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree, do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you. (Romans 11:16-18 ESV) The true Israel is neither a national entity, nor a single ethnic group, nor a people with a particular genetic ancestry. Instead, the true Israel are a diverse people from throughout human history that God is gathering unto Himself (Ephesians 2:18-22). Lots of money has been made from books and movies based in dispensational eschatology. It represents a very popular perspective, promulgated from many pulpits. It is at variance, though, with a soundly Biblical hermeneutic of redemptive history. Perhaps another good post would be Old Testament quotes applying to Israel which are repeated in the New Testament to be applied Christians. I think I've accumulated over a dozen of them. 4 | Today, Christians are Israel | Heb 8:8 | skccab | 193684
Doc, Excellent!! Rom. 8:6-8 But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel; 7) nor are they all children because they are Abraham's descendants, but "Through Isaac your descendants will be named." 8) That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are regarded as descendants. Please, Doc, do share those scriptures, I would love to read them. There are a few that I know of but right now they escape me (I've been up for 24hrs now). Shalom Cheri |
