1 | difference between "LORD" and "Lord | Heb 7:24 | Morant61 | 68201
Greetings New Creature! In the example you provided, Psalm 110, there are two different words translated as 'LORD' and 'Lord'. 'LORD' is YHWH (Strong's Number 3068) and 'Lord' is Adonay (Strong's Number 136). Here is what the NIV preface says about their usage of 'LORD' and 'Lord': ************************** "In regard to the divine name YHWH, commonly referred to as the Tetragrammaton, the translators adopted the device used in most English versions of rendering that name as 'LORD' in capital letters to distinguish it from Adonai, another Hebrew word rendered 'Lord,' for which small letters are used." ************************* I hope this helps! 2 | difference between "LORD" and "Lord | Heb 7:24 | Ray | 68214
Hi Tim, A source that I use has Strong's #113 for verse 1 and #116 for verse 5 for Lord. Are the other three LORD occurances YHWH? In studying this Psalm I found out that MacArthur says that the roles have been reversed in verse 5--the Father now stands at the right hand of the Son. I told New Creature that I saw this Adonay as Jesus Himself. Can I hear from you on this? What do you see from a comparison of Psalm 110:5 and Isaiah 41:10? From the heart, Ray |

3 | difference between "LORD" and "Lord | Heb 7:24 | Morant61 | 68397
Greetings Ray! Sorry I took so long responding to your post! I have been very busy the last week or so! :-) 1) Strong's numbers: My text has YHWH (# 3068) in verses 1 through 4, and Adonay (# 136) in verse 5. # 136 is a form of # 113, but I don't know where the # 116 came from! 2) Based on Mk. 16:19 and Acts 7:55-56, I would tend to agree that verse 5 refers to Jesus. 3) Comparison: Interesting observation! :-) I'm not sure that I would push the point too much, but it definitely is true that Christ upholds us! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
