1 | holy spirit? Are we heirs of promise? | Heb 6:4 | Ray | 67971
Hebrews 6:4-8 is being discussed in another thread. I would like to shift some of the discussion to here. It has been pointed out that blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is not an issue in this passage. The issue here is being partakers and being filled with, tasting, and soaking up the Holy Spirit or as I would say, holy spirit. Can I get a discussion away from thinking of "man" and whether he has faith or works or repentance or backslidden? What can we learn about God here? I hate to tell you, but we will not have any say about whether a person will be allowed into heaven or not. That is up to God and His grace and mercy, and His knowledge and will. So my question is: Does anyone agree with me for the lower case 'holy spirit'? From the heart, Ray |

2 | holy spirit? Are we heirs of promise? | Heb 6:4 | EdB | 68018
Ray I would disagree I think the capitalization here is to show this passage is talking about a saved Spirit filled Christian. To me not capitalizing this would be like saying he was a good person that had a holy spirit (good/righteous spirit) but wasn't necessarily saved and filled with the Holy Spirit. To me Holy Spirit is talking about the third person of the Godhead who comes at our salvation to lead us to all truth and wisdom. The holy spirit is a spirit within man that strives for righteousness and sinless life. That’s how I see it. Be blessed my brother and how are you? EdB |

3 | holy spirit? Are we heirs of promise? | Heb 6:4 | Ray | 68032
Hi EdB, Thanks for talking with me. We have different views about the indwelling of Christ and the filling of the *holy *spirit. I don't believe that they are synonymous happenings. I don't believe that everyone who is saved is filled with the Holy Spirit as you do. I believe that every believer that belongs to God has the Spirit of Christ. God's Spirit indwells every believer. Christ is in us. Romans 8:9ff includes Spirit of God, Spirit of Christ, Christ, Spirit of Him who raised Jesus, and His Spirit; all dwelling in us. But I believe that being filled with the holy spirit is something apart from that. You wrote a sentence that mentioned the "holy spirit". Are you open to having that lower case rendering in the Scriptures? If not here, then somewhere else? In my personal copy and in my belief system, all of the occurances of being filled with the holy spirit are rendered in the lower case. That is how I see it. Be blessed. I am doing well, thank you. I must get to sleep now so I can help prepare our house for the big traditional feast here on Thursday. From the heart, Ray |

4 | holy spirit? Are we heirs of promise? | Heb 6:4 | EdB | 68063
Ray I think your term filled with a 'holy spirit' would be closer to my term of being sanctified or where a person’s spirit is cleansed of all unrighteousness. I wonder if your desire not to capitalize filled with the Holy Spirit is an attempt to downplay the Pentecostal teaching that there are two infillings of the Holy Spirit one at salvation and a second when the gifts are manifested in our lives? Being Pentecostal myself I see only the Holy Spirit in the Bible, everywhere I can think of at least. However I also do not see two degrees of receiving Holy Spirit or partial filling followed by a later total filling often called baptized in the Holy Spirit. I do not see the Holy spirit dividing Himself coming partially into our lives at salvation and more completely later when we are infilled. I see us receiving the Holy Spirit at salvation then moving to the point in our walk with God to where we yield our will to the will of the Holy Spirit and the gifts become manifest. I also see us moving from salvation to a point of more complete sanctification or a place where our spirit becomes holy. FOR ANYONE OTHER THAN RAY READING THIS I did not say I do not believe in gifts of the Spirit or Pentecostalism I very much do! I said I see us getting all of the Holy Spirit at Salvation and the Gifts of the Spirit when we learn to trust and yield our spirit to the Holy Spirit. These are two different occurrences at usually two different times I just think the term being filled with the Spirit as misleading implying you get more. In truth you have it all, we just must learn to yield to the power that resides in you. I say this since there are many that read into what one says. EdB |
