This for those who have the belief that one can commit apostasy. Could someone who holds this belief, please tell me can a person return to Grace and resume, or be saved again? I am not being facetious, I have never had anyone explain this to me. I really want to know. I am being respectfull, and honor your answer with no negative feed back. Thank you. agape, justme |

2 | Apostasy. Can one return to Christ? | Heb 6:4 | kalos | 55342
Justme: Yours is a good question. First, let's define 'apostasy'. "Apostasy, 'falling away,' is the act of professed Christians who deliberately reject revealed truth as to (1) the Deity of Jesus Christ, and (2) redemption through His atoning and redeeming sacrifice. Apostasy differs, therefore, from error concerning truth, which may be the result of ignorance, or heresy, which may be due to the snare of Satan (2 Tim 2:25-26), both of which may exist with true faith. The apostate is perfectly described in 2 Tim 4:3-4. Apostates depart from the faith, but not from the outward profession of Christianity (2 Tim 3:5). ... Apostasy in the church, as in Israel, is irremediable and awaits judgment." (p. 1304, New Scofield Reference Bible, Oxford, 1967) Hebrews 6:4-6 (ESV) For it is impossible to restore again to repentance those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, [5] and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, [6] if they then fall away, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt. "...it is impossible to restore [them] again to repentance..." " . . . logically v. 4 implies that if salvation were to be lost, it would be impossible for that person to be born again, lose it, and then be born again again. "This much is clear: whoever openly and consciously rejects Jesus Christ is unregenerate even if he seemed to have been saved ealier... [Whether he had lost his salvation or never had it to begin with,] "either way, the result is identical." (note at Heb. 6:4ff, NRSV Harper Study Bible) Grace to you, kalos |

3 | Apostasy. Can one return to Christ? | Heb 6:4 | justme | 55345
Kalos: do you believe in Apostasy yourself? I think I would say that "faith that falters, had a flaw ib the begining". That is a quote but I have no resource. agape, justme |

4 | Apostasy. Can one return to Christ? | Heb 6:4 | kalos | 55391
justme: Yes, I do believe in apostasy, as I defined it in my previous post. The English word 'apostasy' appears a total of 3 times in the New American Standard Bible: Jeremiah 8:5 Strong's number 04878; Hosea 14:4 Strong's 04878; and 2 Thessalonians 2:3 Strong's 646. The Hebrew word (Strong's 04878)translated 'apostasy' in the NASB appears in the KJV of the Bible where it is translated 'backsliding' 11 times and 'turning away' 1 time. The Greek word 'Apostasia' (Strong's 646)translated 'apostasy' in the NASB appears twice in the KJV of the Bible and is defined as 'a falling away, defection, apostasy'. Since the word appears in the Bible, one would have no choice but to believe in it. Grace to you, kalos |
