1 | Discerning Christians? | Heb 5:14 | Searcher56 | 146914
Scripture ... Rom 14:1, 1Co 12:10, Heb 5:14 .... Lissa, greetings Diakrisis is the Greek word, a noun feminine, used in all three verses. It is from diakrino, a verb, which is two words mening through and separation. I have the gift of discernment ... a I do separate my personal relationship and thoughts when using this gift. But we all need discern good and evil. Just as there are people with the gift of giving (Rom 12:8), it is something we all should do (2 Cor 9:7). Galatians 5 and the latter half of Romans 7 are better tied together, yet could be tied with this passage. Hopefully the more mature we get, the better we wage the battle with our flesh, as we know what is evel. 1 John 4:1 is about testing and again we shouldn't let our personal agenda get in the wa, including feelings. Hope that helps, Searcher |

2 | Still a little cloudy for me... | Heb 5:14 | Lissamz | 146943
Thanks for the input Searcher56, I am still a little cloudy about whether testing the spirits (1 Jn 4:1) is actually connected to discernment (referring to Heb. 5:14). Hmmm, I guess I would ask if spiritual discernment comes forth from testing the spirits?? (Looking forward to an answer, please respond as soon as you can!) hidden in Christ, Lissa |

3 | Still a little cloudy for me... | Heb 5:14 | Searcher56 | 146945
Lissa, This is my humble opinion. 1 John 4:1 needs to be viewed in the context of at least the next two verses. It is about testing what other person says. Hebrews 5:14 doesn't have to be about another person, but could be. I think 1 John 4:1 also takes maturity. There are leaders who do not confess Jesus is not from God. It may not always be clear, because they use smoke and mirrors. I think it take discernment to know if a spirit is from God. I hope I cleared things up, Searcher |
