1 | The rest of God? | Heb 3:19 | mom7x | 154102
First, the rest of God is Canaan-in the days of Israel, an actual physical place, which was a picture of heaven. It is the time when we can cease from our works, just as God did on the seventh day of creation. (Hebrews 4) Second, there is a difference between obedience and unbelief. Disobedience to God is not doing what he tells us to. Unbelief is not believing he does what he says or is who he says he is. When we don't believe him, we don't do what he says. the law isn't all of it, because he also says to trust in him with all your heart, to acknowledge him in all your ways(Proverbs 3:5,6)We are saved by faith, not works(Eph 2:8). If we refuse to believe in Jesus, that he paid the debt for our sin, we are disobedient. (Hebrews 4:2)We are not relying on God, but on our own works. The Pharisees were great at making laws and keeping them. Jesus called them hypocrites(Matthew 23)because although they obeyed the letter of the law, they disobeyed the spirit of it. |

Hi, Mom... The following verses suggest that disbelief is a form of disobedience. But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our report?" (Romans 10:16) Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, "The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone." (1 Peter 2:7) And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. (1 John 3:23) The above are in the NKJV. This verse, though, is in the LITV: The one believing into the Son has everlasting life; but the one disobeying the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him. Yes, that is exactly what I mean when I said that when we don't believe, we are disobedient. However, the question was "is there a difference between unbelief and disobedience". There is...We can believe, but still be disobedient. They are not one and the same. However, unbelief in God will always be disobedience, because God has commanded us to believe, trust, acknowledge, and serve Him, which is impossible without believing.
