1 | Sumission to authority? | Heb 13:17 | Mommapbs | 28649
How do I recognize my Pastor's authority over me if I cannot agree with everything that He teaches? Am I causing him grief by refusing to accept his interpretation of an area that we differ on? Because he has set certain prerequisites for ministry that I do not agree with, is my voluntary removal from serving akin to submission to his authority? I'm waiting on God for these answers, but if anyone feels led to be His instrument to clarify things, I'd welcome your input! If he is accountable to God for me, would it be best to part company if I can't agree with his teaching? Wouldn't this be profitable for both of us? |

Submission to authority.......................... There are many questions in your question. A big way to recognize authority is by the attitude you take when discussing your pastor or his views. You can disagree, but acknowledge him and his position without belittling. Are your interpretations different or the application? There is no difficulty with alternate applications. If your interpretations differ, that's another matter. Be patient in this (maybe you already have). There are times when it is best to part, and yes, it could be mutually profitable to both. Mommapbs, If you do not agree with your Pastors interpretation of Scriptures and you find yourself questioning and not comfortable, you have done the right thing by making every effort to discuss this with him. After a few attempts and it seems he just doesn't seem to agree with you then I would ask him to show you why he interprets it the way he does. If he chooses to not use a good Bible Concordance which translate back to the original language and he's only reading a scripture in a chapter without reading the whole chapter to get the correct interpretation as best he can with these tools, And he doesn't see the interpretation you get is agreeable to him and you as well are not using additonal tools to help you get a better understanding. Then after all that ,it is your right to find a Church that's agreeable to your beliefs and interpretation of scripture. Pastors have a big responsibility to leading and guiding christians to correct translation and interpretation to God'S word, I feel that all who teaches needs to realize this. All will be held acoountable to whom they taught and led in their Church. If it was me, I would be open and seeking the truth in the Word daily. You don't want to stay where you're uncomfortable and in a SERIOUS disagreement. If you stayed and found he led you the wrong way and you never studied for yourself seriously in depth, then that's on you and you need to think of the cosequences. Also, I'm real leary of commentaries, but that too is an option in your studies. Oh there is so much out there for the serious Bible scholar. Good Luck in your decisions and God will show you the way. Stay humble and open to his guidance. I hope I've helped. In the Living Water, SERENETIME
