When God let bad things happen to good people 1. It proves our relationship with God. Job was blameless, upright, fearing God and turning away from evil, yet when bad thing happened, he did not sin nor did he blame God ... and he held fast his integrity he could accept good from God and adversity (Job 1:1-2:10). 2. Satan has some control in the world. As we study Job, Satan was allowed to do certain things. Also read Ephesians 6:12 and 1 Peter 5:8-10. 3. It develops endurance. When we encounter various trials it ia the testing of our faith which produces endurance ... so may be mature and complete (Jam 1:2-4). 4. It develops character. Romans 5:3-5 says something simliar. Tribulation brings about perseverance - and perseverance, proven character - and proven character, hope ... and hope does not disappoint. 5. It develops us into Christ's image. Romans also says, we need to be conformed into His image, and while a single event may be bad (or evil), the eventual outcome is for our good (Rom 8:28-29). He had many bad things happen to Him, including being falsely accused and killed. 6. It lets us rely on God and His comfort. He promises to comfort us in all our troubles and delivers us. Our hope is set on Him. (2 Cor 1:8-11). 7. It strenghtens us in our weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 reminds us that His grace is sufficent and His power is perfect. 8. We gain approval through our faith as we focus on the future. Faith is assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen (Heb 11:1) ... because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they would not be made perfect (vv 35-40). Luke 16:25 tells us Lazarus received bad things. Searcher |
