2 | Is man the founder of religion? | Heb 12:2 | lionheart | 200703
Bro Evans, Greetings and welcome to the forum. Hebrews 12:2 refers to Jesus as as the author and perfector of faith. When we start dealing with religion we tend to get into it from a worldly perspective. Look at the following scriptures they will give you a clearer picture than I can. Acts 5:21, 8:10, 17:22, 25:19, 26:5. 1Tim 5:4 Heb 10:11 James 1:26,27 In Him, lionheart |

We still need a workable definition. :-)
4 | Is man the founder of religion? | Heb 12:2 | lionheart | 200708
I'll be a bit clearer. Religion isn't something God did,it;s something man did. The question is how Godly is omes religion. There are thoudands of em. It's about our faith not our religion. Therefore Heb 12:2. Look at the others scripture referencees I listed, I think they do quite well. In Him, lionheart |

5 | Is man the founder of religion? | Heb 12:2 | DocTrinsograce | 200730
Dear Lionheart, No, our question is still how we define religion. There are several words translated to the English as religion: 1. Threskeia (Acts 26:5; Colossians 2:18; James 1:26 and 27), a noun, meaning worship, discipline, or ceremonies. 2. Threskos (James 126a), an adjective, meaning fearing God. 3. Ioudaismos (Galatians 1:13 and 14), a noun, meaning the Jewish faith and worship. 4. Deisidaimonesteros (Acts 17:22), an adjective, meaning very pious. Clearly, Scripture does not use the simple word that we do. If we use the modern definition of religion, as the beliefs and practices associated with man's effort to reach God, then Christianity is not a religion. Indeed, in that sense, Christianity is the opposite of religion, since it is how God reaches man. Therefore, we'd say that religion was not founded by God. On the other hand, if you define religion as the set of beliefs and practices proscribed by the Bible, then Christianity is a religion. Therefore, we'd say that religion was founded by God. You see? It all depends on one's definition. In Him, Doc |

Dear Lionheart, Just as I've done here. Find out what people's presuppositions are before you answer their questions. If you aren't talking about the same things, you can't really answer someone's question. In Him, Doc |
