Better question is why don't members remember they are the CHURCH? They seem to think the Pastor is the church and he does most of the work. Something is sure backwards here. The Bible says Born Again followers are the CHURCH

Dear justme... Good question. In our Baptist circles, I think that it is often the case that all people have to do is walk an aisle. Since they are not taught what membership entails -- let alone what a believer looks like -- they assume that nothing is required of them. Catechesis has been much aligned by teachers unwilling to be held accountable to Scripture. At least in that practice, catechumens were instructed on what the Lord requires of them personally and ecclesiastically. Now, since the populist movements, people think the church exists to serve them. It is interesting that you bring this up. I have recently become familiar with a small congregation in Britain. I have been listening to their sermons. Check out the web page: http://www.salem.org.uk/Sermons/salemsermons.html Notice that at the top right side of the page are "Bible studies on church membership." In Him, Doc |

Doc: How many times have we heard the "church" meaning those in some kind of paid position, didn't do this or that? I also came to the conclusion by experience, there is no such thing as a part time pastor (bi-vocational). When I see church members who do not get involved, visit, or even make a phone call to see why you were not there last Sunday, I wonder is anyone really Following Christ? One Pastor can't do it all or even come close. |

Hi, justme... So, where do you see the problem? In the laity, who are taught no better; or in the clergy, who have dominated all of the roles? Or perhaps the clergy are ignorant, leaving the laity untaught? Or perhaps the laity or the clergy know better, but are in rebellion? Or is it something else? In Him, Doc |

5 | what is the church's responsibilities t | Heb 10:25 | justme | 239261
Doc: it's high time for us to go back to the Bible and start from there. Maybe even consider new churches, or find old boarded up churches and start from there. Too many pastors like being king pen and churches like being lazy? I am puzzled at this point. justme |
