Mommapbs I think that is one of the problems on this forum we tolerate false doctrine. When someone posts false doctrine on this forum we should label it nonsense and file an abuse report to Lockman. Now the question looms, who or what determines whether something is false doctrine. In some cases such as Mormonism or Jehovah Witness theology the answer is obvious. However if you hold to Pentecostalism and another doesn't, it is possible that you both view the other of holding false doctrine. At that point you may be tempted to debate with them. However after being part of this forum for nearly 3 years and having read nearly every post I have found there is very little purpose served in any of the debates. In most cases the two involved either end up angry with each other or agreeing to disagree. I can’t think of a time when either has convinced the other enough that positions were changed. The most that has been accomplished is that both contenders now know what ammunition future adversaries will probably use but not much more. About a year ago I resolved not to debate any longer, I believe at the leading of the Holy Spirit I’m to give my view based on what I consider to be correct theology and let it go. That said I will admit I have failed to do this more than once. To my shame I have left myself be drawn into discussions and debates that I truly wish I hadn't. I'm ashamed because I did not take the high road and gave opportunity for non believers to criticize what should be exemplary Christian behavior. EdB |
