1 | How will their folly "be obvious to all" | 2 Tim 3:9 | EdB | 133758
Mommapbs Question: Is "their folly" the godlessness that has been described in vv 2-5? Answer: What is described in verses 2-5 is not godlessness but rather the results of godlessness. Without God men become as described in these verses. All these traits manifest negative impacts on ones life. Question: Are believers just as "blind" to the subtle workings of godlessness within our culture as suggested in vv 6-7? Answer: We are commanded to avoid such men therefore we can be assured we have the ability to discern such men. Discernment is a gift of the Spirit and every believer should exercise that gift. However many chose not to, rather sticking their head in the sand. Question: How will their folly "be obvious to all"? Answer: 2 Tim. 3:9 But they will not make further progress; for their folly will be obvious to all, just as Jannes's and Jambres's folly was also. Jannes and Jambres imitated God's miracles worked through Moses until God had enough then God revealed his power by destroying theirs. As we watch men practice the things described in verse 2-5 do we not see the destructive results manifested in their lives? The hurt, the fear, the turmoil, the lack of love, the loneliness, the desperation, the separation? EdB |

EdB - point taken on the result of godlessness . . . you asked "As we watch men practice the things described in verse 2-5 do we not see the destructive results manifested in their lives? The hurt, the fear, the turmoil, the lack of love, the loneliness, the desperation, the separation?" I suspect that many of our churches are filled with sand dwellers. Yet we've been instructed to build on the "Rock." Jesus didn't ignore sin or the result of sin in His midst . . . Additional thoughts: 2 Tim 3:1 "But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come." Are we not in those difficult times because of man's "folly?" IMO, "they will not make further progress" follows the activity of godless men in v6; to me this is encouraging. Neither will the deciever or those being decieved make any more progress than God allows (their folly will be obvious to all). To me, it is a reminder of God's supremacy and sovereignty. It is also imo, a sign of the times (v 1) in which we live. "But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." 3 | How will their folly "be obvious to all" | 2 Tim 3:9 | EdB | 133802
mommapbs I agree but I also think man will continue to get progressively more self centered. We are seeing now with people running traffic lights, and examples of road rage. I see this trend increasing. Your right our redemption gets one day closer with the passing of each day. EdB |

4 | How will their folly "be obvious to all" | 2 Tim 3:9 | Mommapbs | 133810
EdB - I find that the longer and closer I walk with God, the more aware I am of my own self-centered nature, how far short I fall . . . and how undeserving I am of His mercy and Grace - but they are mine; it just overwhelms me!(Romans 5:8) The joy of my salvation eclipses all. With that being said, I don't think that man is becoming more self-centered, imo, THAT is the root problem - man's (sin) nature; it is a consequence of Adam's rebellion against God. IMO, the expression of that self-centeredness is not only being promoted, but "legalized." So yes, I agree, we should expect to see a sinful society grow like wildfire in the medium of humanism that it spawns, feeds and protects. Blessings to you! mommapbs |

5 | How will their folly "be obvious to all" | 2 Tim 3:9 | EdB | 133826
mommapbs Good point man hasn't really changed it is society’s view of man’s actions that is changing. When society allowed itself to guided by Godly principles self centeredness was frown upon. However as society move from Godliness to humanism we see self centeredness become accepted and even idealized. There is a lot of talk of respect yet the value of human life is diminished. Respect is now another way of saying don’t do anything that impedes my right to do my own thing. It is all about me! EdB |
