I notice that two very competent users have responded to your question already. In that light, I will not repeat what they said, but I think a couple of questions are in order. Your question makes two assumptions: 1) You seem to assume that salvation is determined by a cognitive accent to a Biblical belief. In other words, if I understand and say "Yes, I believe that…" then you are covered for your sins and "saved." Is this what the Scriptures teach concerning salvation? Also, the text quoted hear is to Timothy and refers to the Old Testament, not the New (although it also applies to the New Testament now, but when Timothy read it, there was no “New Testament.”) 2) Your question seems to assume that salvation is merely being rescued from hell in the life after. Is that your view of salvation and what Jesus gave His life for, or is it much more than that? MJH |

3 | What are the limits of salvation? | 2 Tim 3:15 | wry | 165528
MJH, Thank you for your answer. Concerning the two assumptions you mentioned I don't know how much different my state could be. 1)I tend to rely very much on my cognitive acceptance of the truth exposed in the Bible and could not judge completely if my faith is lacking something more. Jesus is the reason of my hope because of His righteousness and holiness which I believe I am a partaker of and appreciate their value. To experience His love, mercy and compassion is a surprise to me and I am thankful for that. But I wrote my question because of my cognitive accent, as you say. I have been very concerned about how much evidence is necessary to guarantee that everybody has a just and fair chance to be saved. 2)Jesus mentioned hell more than everybody else so I think it is necessary to consider this reality as demonstrated by the following verse: Matthew 10:28 28 "And do not fear those who kill the body, but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. wry |

4 | What are the limits of salvation? | 2 Tim 3:15 | srinaldi | 165544
From what I know, the ONLY way to loose your salvation is through blasphemey. Basically to say that God does not exist,or Jesus is not needed for salvation, or something else along those lines.
5 | What are the limits of salvation? | 2 Tim 3:15 | Wild Olive Shoot | 165545
If salvation is by the grace of God, then there aren’t any restrictions, no limits. "Jesus Christ takes many to his bosom, whose company we should have shunned, when they were in their evil state. Sovereign mercy can dash into sinful places, and take captives! Free grace can go into the gutter, and bring up a jewel! Divine love can rake a dunghill, and find a diamond! There is no spot where God's grace cannot and will not go!" - From Spurgeon's sermon, "A DIVINE CHALLENGE!" If God claims you as His, are you so pompous to think that you can overrule Him and blaspheme, and claim you are not? WOS |
