To whom it may concern: Are you proficient in the Greek language? (How many years did you study New Testament Greek at the university level?) Have you studied Old Testament Hebrew? What about Aramaic? If you cannot answer in the affirmative, then you are not qualified to second guess the interpretation of someone who is proficient in one or more of these languages. Reading a dozen medical or health articles in Reader's Digest does not qualify you to second guess your doctor. Watching every episode of "L.A. Law" does not prepare you to pass the bar exam and set up your own practice. Subscribing to "Psychology Today" doesn't mean you are ready to start your own counselling service. Nor does the ability to quote a dozen Bible verses and outshout the other guy anoint you to serve as a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness, an instructor of the foolish, or a teacher of babes. In the event that you have an irresistible urge to proclaim that another man is incorrect, wrong or in error, you need to know the subject as well as, if not better than, the other man. Before you blurt out your omniscient pronouncements, just remember: "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt." |

Hi Radioman, I can respond to this as I can see that it concerns me. I believe that we on the forum can only state what we believe and know. I don't know too much Greek, I never studied in a Seminary, and I can only speak that which I know. Is this forum only for the most eminent scholars or can a questioning new believer ask his questions and make his comments also? We all answer on how we perceive things and according to our knowledge at the time. We give our comments for what they are worth. 2 Corinthians 12:11, "I have become foolish; you yourselves compelled me. Actually I should have been commended by you, for in no respect was I inferior to the most eminent apostles, even though I am a nobody." 2 Corinthians 12:19, "Did we not conduct ourselves in the same spirit and walk in the same steps? All this time you have been thinking that we are defending ourselves to you. Actually, it is in the sight of God/ that we have been speaking in Christ; and all for your upbuilding, beloved." 2 Corinthians 2:17, "For we are not like many, peddling the word of God, but as from sincerity, but as from God, we speak in Christ/ in the sight of God." Ray, my dear friend, I much doubt that Radioman had you in mind when he posted, for he knows and I know that you have never been one to abuse this forum by standing on a soap box and pontificating as though your word or your opinion was the last word to be said on any given topic and certainly you have never indicated in the least that your opinion was the only opinion worthy of notice. You've never been on my short list or long one either of users whom I ever considered pushing the Abuse button on! We love you, Ray, and thank God for allowing us to get to know you and converse with you on the forum. You are one of a select few of users whose posts consistently reflect your contrite heart and your dedication to fostering harmony, peace and good will among those of us who hold this forum dear and fervently seek to make it a place to come, not for divisive and "scholarly intellectual" debate and bickering, but for the sharing of our common faith and concerns, and as a place to learn the will of God for our lives. Unfortunately from time to time come those who conduct themselves in a way that creates division and ill will, and it was to these that Radioman addressed his timely message. Grace and peace to you, and I continue to pray for your health and healing. --Hank | ||||||

Hi Hank, The post was one of questioning how much Greek was known by whomever. I, for one, think that we should go to the Greek as much as we can; not so much to read Greek, but to see the literal meanings from an Interlinear copy. I am going to ask a question about 2 Samuel 24:1 tomorrow perhaps to see if people think that it was He or "it" or "he" who moved David against Israel. I was looking at it just prior to finding your email to me. I think that the passage is appropriate for us to think about if we are tempted to be "righteously indignant" about the actions of people. David numbered the people in response to the anger of the Lord and the "accuser", Satan. He was going to find out "who was the Lord's." We need to accept everyone's input since this forum is open to the world. Thanks for your love and concern. Ray |
