What comfort this is! He chooses to contend with us (Jer 2:9) in order to restore us to righteousness, and will not abandon us (John 14:18; Heb 13:5) even if we are faithless. Note that the reason is "He cannot deny Himself" -- pointing not only to the irrevocable promise, but to the Deposit (Eph 1:13,14): He, Himself as Holy Spirit, within us when re-created in His Image (2 Cor 3:18). |
