1 | A husband's responsibility | 1 Tim 5:8 | Norrie | 18698
I've always thought the Prov woman was the wife of a rich man, maybe the lord of the manor so to speak. She is just being a wise steward of her husband's money and goods, that's what a wife should do. How is she supposed to tend to all the things of the home if she works outside the home? Remember even back in the old south and I guess other rich people, the woman was trained for marriage by preparing her to run the household, she had to know how to handle the servants, throw the right kind of parties, basically see that everything ran smooth. The husbands did all the providing back then, it was unthinkable for a woman to work outside the home. This guy doesn't sound all there or just a bum who shirks responsibility!

My opinion of Proverbs 31 is similar to yours. I believe a "virtuous wife" is one that is "a wise steward of her husband's money and goods" and also is a dependable worker in caring for her family... not lazy. She also has a kind and generous heart, and loves God. When this subject came up... I went blank. I've never had anyone "question" this part of a husband's responsibility before... using the Bible! So I certainly appreciate your help. There |
