1 | What does 1 Timothy 3 v 4 mean? | 1 Tim 3:4 | Diomede | 159088
Can someone explain this verse abit more for me? Does this mean that to qualify as an overseer a mans children must be christians, or that they should be respectable, not rebellious? Does it just refer to children before they've reached adulthood? Thanks.
2 | What does 1 Timothy 3 v 4 mean? | 1 Tim 3:4 | CDBJ | 159104
Hi Diomede, The verse is pretty much self explanatory. Can anyone actually prove that their children are believers? It surly is hopeful thinking that all of our children would be believers but only the Lord actually knows. 1 Tim. 3:4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; The English word “subjection” comes to us from the Koine Greek word “hupotage” which means that the father is the boss and the family is subordinate. i.e. He is well in control. The last word in the verse “gravity” is from the word, “semnotes” which means that dad is cranking out the Bible doctrine to the family on a regular basis and everybody seem to be taking it in, with out bucking the tiger, as it were. Have a great day, CDBJ |

3 | how should overseers children act? | 1 Tim 3:4 | Diomede | 159113
Thanks CDBJ for your thoughts. So are you saying that if a mans children are disobediant and disrespectful to him then he doesn't meet the criteria for an overseer? I know of several godly parents whos adult children have completely rebelled and have been disrespectful to their parents and the way they have been brought up. Are these parents excluded from being overseers because of their adult childrens choices? |

At what point in time are you not responsible for you’re off springs actions? What is the age of accountability where you live? 1 Tim. 3:4 (KJV) A One that ruleth well his own house Emphasis on, “his own house” while under the authority of!! My youngest “kid”, is thirty five and he has his own home and three kids. He is an adult and not under my jurisdiction Are you so naïve as to think that a bishop would be responsible for the way his “adult” off spring acts once they leave the nest? When my children come home to visit and they are in my home, they still respect the rules that I have in my house, because pop is still the head roster! How can I say it any plainer? It’s ludicrous to think that a bishop would be responsible for adults out from under his control! CDBJ |

CDBJ I do apologise if to you my questions seem naive, you obiviously have alot more knowledge about the Bible and life than I do. I've really only just beginning to take the bible seriously and to try to get the the heart of what it actually means, and how I am to apply it every day. I don't have more mature christians who I can ask my dumb questions to, and so I really appreciate having this forum. Thank for your answer.I do agree with you, I was just asking the question so that I could be sure for myself of the verses meaning. Thanks |

Hello Diomede, from the grumpy old man! Please forgive me, I just gave four quarts of blood and then found out they are going to use it to feed mentally deficient mosquitoes and hyper active leaches! Not really. Some times I just put my mouth in gear before my brain is in motion. When I first started reading the Bible every one was very nice and helpful to me so I figured that there must be a huge deficiency of nasty people that study the Bible and I am trying to fill up the gap. Again, please excuse bad manors in my previous post and I promise I will do better the next time. James 3:2 [2] For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. I sure am glad that my salvation is a work of God and what He did for me through His Son Jesus because if even the smallest part salvation depended on me, I’d botch it up! Have a great day, CDBJ |
