1 | Does God give faith? | 1 Tim 1:14 | Diomede | 153985
How are faith and love found in Christ? Its easier to see how love is found in Christ as God is love, but I always thought of faith as the part I have to play. That is, even though I don't fully understand I still believe and so that is my faith, a deliberate decision on my part. So is this saying that God will give me faith, or that God should be the centre of my faith? Different translations put it slightly differently and they are not making it clearer to me. Also, does God give more grace to those who have sinned more, or is sin, sin no matter how big or small, so his grace is the same, abundantly poured out for us all? |

2 | Does God give faith? | 1 Tim 1:14 | Searcher56 | 153997
Romans 6:1-2 answers the last part with a NO What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen (Heb 11:1). |

3 | Thanks! What about verse 17? | 1 Tim 1:14 | Diomede | 154031
Thank you seacher 56 for your answer, that Hebrews verse puts faith in a way I've never thought about it before. Thanks too to those others who have answered my previous questions. I've only recently joined this forum, and I just think its so cool that I can put in something thats puzzling me before I go to bed in New Zealand, and by the time I wake up someone has always taken the time to share their thoughts and help me find the answers I'm looking for. A further question on my Timothy study: verse 17 seems to come out of nowhere. Why do you think he puts it there and how does it connect with the previous verses? |

4 | Thanks! What about verse 17? | 1 Tim 1:14 | Searcher56 | 154053
Diomede, greetings in the Lord ... I think 1 Tim 1:17 "Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen" is the capstone. When the book was written there were no breaks - verses, chapters or paragraphs. So read the whole book and see how it fits. Searcher
5 | who added the verse numbers? | 1 Tim 1:14 | Diomede | 154192
Interesting point about the verses, chapters etc being added later. Do you (or does some one else out there) know when this happened and how they decided where it should be broken up?
6 | who added the verse numbers? | 1 Tim 1:14 | Makarios | 154200
Greetings Diomede, Post #587 is an interesting one to read (enter 587 in the Quick Search box to your right) regarding who divided the Bible into chapter and verse.. I don't have a lot of time right now, or I would do a bit more research on that. Blessings to you, Makarios |
