1 | Who is "they" in 2 Tim 4:3-4 ? | 2 Thess 2:11 | Mommapbs | 100281
Greetings, I had written this as a note a few weeks ago and perhaps now it's time to post it as a question to consider. "For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false," 2 Thess 2:11 Once again this verse has "captured" my attention: Having just read "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown, and after a little web searching it seems to me that there are many "deluding" influences that the Lord may employ in these "last days" to achieve His purposes. The premise that this text espouses (in direct conflict with the Gospel), its secret nature and the enticement of its "power" are indeed strong motivators for many to be influenced to turn away from the Truth. I suspect that there may be a unifying connection (antichrist) between the Priory of Scion, Knights Templar, Free Masonry and the Illuminati, to name a few. . . also, the suggestion that there are many individuals in positions of power and influence around the globe who belong to these organizations is chilling, to say the least! Frankly, it is exciting to me as I see prophecy being fulfilled here: "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths." 2 Tim 4:3-4 I think that we as believers have missed something here because so often we attach this Scripture to those in our midst who do not share OUR doctrinal position! So, I'm wondering, who is "they" in this Scripture? As for believers, stand firm - hold onto the Gospel of Truth, for our Lord is indeed coming and His reward is with Him! 2 | Who is "they" in 2 Tim 4:3-4 ? | 2 Thess 2:11 | Radioman2 | 100283
Question: Who is "they" in 2 Tim 4:3-4 ? Answer: people. For the time is coming when [PEOPLE] will not tolerate (endure) sound and wholesome instruction, but, having ears itching [for something pleasing and gratifying], they will gather to themselves one teacher after another to a considerable number, chosen to satisfy their own liking and to foster the errors they hold, AMPLIFIED 2 Timothy 4:3 (emphasis added) |

Radioman, perhap you missed my point - "so often we attach this Scripture to those in our midst who do not share OUR doctrinal position!" Are these "people" those in the Church or unbelievers or both? mommapbs |

mommapbs First I think we have to be very careful we don't get involved in conspiracy theories that seem so loved in this day and age. I think Radioman2 gave a most excellent answer. They are people that refuse to receive sound teaching, whether they be in the church or outside. This may come as a surprise but most churches have more unsaved people than saved. Jesus gave us this example of the parable of the sower in Matthew 13:3-52. In his example on 25 percent really received the word the rest mishandled it. EdB |

Yes EdB,I wholeheartedly agree with your observations, BUT again, my point was that BELIEVERS have a tendency to use this Scripture to "go after" other believers when they have a doctrinal aka denominational disagreement. mommapbs PS: Personally, I believe that Dan Brown's book is very dangerous - it plants doubt, which I have observed and dealt with first hand. Thankfully, the Word of God is LIVING AND ACTIVE and ABLE! We are told to be on the lookout for the devil's schemes . . . this, to me, is one of them. |

mommapbs "Yes EdB,I wholeheartedly agree with your observations, BUT again, my point was that BELIEVERS have a tendency to use this Scripture to "go after" other believers when they have a doctrinal aka denominational disagreement." And I agree with you and many times we need to go after them with this, when they are buying into doctrine of man. We see it here on the forum people come in expressing the most outlandish junk that sounded good and run with it. This is how cult exist, because what they preached tickled the ears of their followers. Turn on you TV to a Christian Channel and you will see men and women tickling ears and working the pocket books of every cent they can get. Before anyone jumps on me I did not say all TV preachers do this. There are many exceptions. EdB |
