1 | "not some secret catching away" | 1 Thess 4:15 | kalos | 148708 | ||
A visible, noisy, glorious event... ...not some secret catching away! 'Paul gives us even more details of the rapture of the Church. The most famous rapture passage is in 1 Thessalonians 4: 'For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord (1 Thess. 4:15-17). 'Paul comforts the Thessalonian believers by telling them that the dead in Christ will be resurrected just before the translation of living believers. Christ will descend visibly with a shout, the archangel Michael will raise His voice, and the trumpet of God will be blown. This is a visible, noisy, glorious event, not some secret catching away! The word Paul uses for "remain" is perileipo, which is best translated as "survive." There will be many believers killed during the Great Tribulation, but Paul is saying that "we who survive until the coming of the Lord" will be caught up to meet Christ along with resurrected believers.' ____________________ http://solagroup.org/articles/endtimes/ep_0012.html |

Kalos Thanks for presenting this to us. But we must remember this is only one point of view. First can we say for certain it is the rapture and not the second coming? That this event is describing an event that will preceed Jesus standing on the Mount of Olives. Second how do we reconcile it with Matt 24:40? Many see this as a separate event however there are also many that can make a good arguement for this passage to be revealing another aspect of the second coming of Jesus Christ. The Bible does not specifically say there are going to be two separate events it only hints of it. Doesn't Sola Scriptura say we must be convinced by scripture? We might believe this passage is describing the rapture but since scripture does not explicitly say this is the rapture, one must ask where is the convincing evidence it is? EdB |
