Hello jessica21, First, keep small things small and realize there are two parties to a relationship. you can't change him, but you can work on your own growth. Since the purpose of this Forum is not counsel related, I would recommend that you seek some good mentorship within your local church for guideance in your relationship. It may be a Pastor, elder or other qualified individual that you see or know has a good relationship with their spouse. Second, a couple books I'd recommend are: 1. The 5 Love Languages; 2. Fit To Be Tied (Bill and Lynn Hybels) I've read them both and highly recommend them- especially if you're serious about your relationship. Last, take a look at Colosians 3:1-14 with particular emphasis on verses 12-14: "So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. 14 Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity." I hope this helps, BradK |
