1 | N.T. circumcision? | Col 2:12 | charis | 22844
Saints and brethren, Greetings in the name of Jesus! "...and in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ; having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead." Colossians 2:12 NASB Is water baptism the sign of the New Covenant? Would it then be the promised 'circumcision of heart?' "Moreover the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live." Deuteronomy 30:6 NASB Also, would water baptism be a fulfilment of the Old Testament command? "Circumcise yourselves to the LORD And remove the foreskins of your heart, Men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, Or else My wrath will go forth like fire And burn with none to quench it, Because of the evil of your deeds." Jeremiah 4:4 NASB. Blessings one and all! In Christ Jesus, charis |

2 | N.T. circumcision? | Col 2:12 | Praise Be To God | 131771
Water Baptism is a sign of the New Covenant because it is an outward show of dying with Christ and rising with him again in victory. The Holy Spirit does the circumcizing of the heart; our role is to desire it. If we yield ourselves to the Holy Spirit, obey God's commands, and are holy (Be ye holy, for I am holy, saith the Lord), the Holy Spirit can circumcize our hearts. But, we must be holy. We cannot yield to sin and expect the Holy Spirit to circumcize our hearts. We recently had a service at my church where we asked the Holy Spirit to do just that. Those desiring to have God circumcize their hearts went forward for prayer and the work was begun. It is being accomplished still. It is an ongoing work of the Holy Spirit. I can only speak by my own experience.

Praise be to God, I would offer three comments on your post: 1. Don't negate or overlook the importance of the role of the Holy Spirit in bringing us into vital union with Christ Spiritually! ( 1 Cor. 12:13) 2.Possibly Col. 2:11 was the verse you're referring to? "In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, but in a [spiritual] circumcision [performed by] Christ by stripping off the body of the flesh (the whole corrupt, carnal nature with its passions and lusts).[The Amplified New Testament] Maybe you are more correctly referring to the process of sanctification? As I see it, the actual "circumcising" is done by God per the above verses. 2. What about Phil.3:3? "for we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh," [NASB] Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

4 | N.T. circumcision? | Col 2:12 | Praise Be To God | 131780
BradK, Thank you for your comments. Yes, I agree, from what I have said, it appears I was talking about sanctification. I can only tell you what happened to me personally. The day after we prayed that I would receive the circumcision of my heart from God, I was prompted by God to ask forgiveness from someone I work with for something I did not even realize was wrong! But, God spoke to me two different times that day telling me that patience is a virtue. I knew exactly what He was talking about and I immediately apologized to my workmate for being impatient with her. Then, that night, God spoke to me further and told me that I had made a good start, but what He really wanted was for me to ask her forgiveness, which I did the next day. All of this was a result of the prayer for circumcision of my heart. The work was being carried out. I am trying to be holy. It is like sanctification, I will admit, but it is even more than that, because we are all being sanctified. But this is more, it is cutting deep and cutting away at things in my heart which I do not even know are in my heart. I don't know how else to explain it. There's more, which I will tell you, if you want to hear it, and all of it began as a direct result of that prayer. (1) I Corinthians 12:13 is talking about the Body of Christ. (2) What a beautiful verse that is! And yes, that is exactly what I feel is happening. (3) Philippians 3:3 is another beautiful description of what it is to be a Believer. It says we are the circumcision--how beautiful God's Word is! Thank you for bringing these scriptures to my attention. You have made my day most blessed. |
