Greetings Mommapbs! Excellent question on an interesting verse! :-) You have already received some good answers, and I only seek to add to what is written.. "So this is the way in which all of us who are mature should be thinking, and if you are still thinking differently in any way, then God has yet to make this matter clear to you." [New Jerusalem Bible] Paul has just finished a thought (verses 12-14), and is challenging and inspiring his "hearers" to "press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.." (v. 14).. Of this verse, A.W. Tozer wrote in his daily devotional.. "The normal Bible direction is not backward, it is always forward. Jacob returned to the altar, but in doing so he did not go back, he went forward. The Prodigal Son did not say, "I will go back"; he said, "I will arise and go to my father." "From where he was, going to his father's house was a forward step in his moral activities. It represented no retreat, but a distinct advance over his previous conduct." "The will of God is always the proper goal for every one of us. Where God is must be the place of desire. Any motion toward God is a forward motion. Even repentance is not a retreat toward the past but a decided march into a more glorious future. Restitution is not a return to yesterday but a step into a blessed tomorrow..." "If we find that we have gone back, then we should immediately reverse the direction and again go forward." "God's purpose in all His dealings with us is to make us grow into something higher. The greatest calamity that can come to a soul is to be satisfied with its present condition." - A.W. Tozer, August 6th, "Tozer on the Holy Spirit", 2000, Christian Publications, Inc. Makarios |

Absolutely EXCELLENT! Thank you for your contribution! Do you think that this - "God's purpose in all His dealings with us is to make us grow into something higher. The greatest calamity that can come to a soul is to be satisfied with its present condition." - might be the encouragement we need to give one another here as well? What would that look like as we interact with one another? mommapbs |

4 | What is "this attitude?" | Phil 3:15 | Makarios | 93285 | ||
Mommapbs, I am glad that you asked! Yes! We need to continue to inspire and encourage each other to move "forward" in Christ, to "press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus", just as Paul was doing in Philippians 3:12-16. And if we continue this example, continuing in the same "attitude" with each other, then we will be able to "keep living by that same standard to which we have attained." :-) But if we have a different attitude concerning these things, then the Lord will make that clear to us also.. Blessings to you! Makarios |
