2 | Please explain | Phil 2:7 | BradK | 141485 | ||
Hi Janae, I think that the majority of the problem results from an incorrect understanding of Phil. 2:5-8. The doctrine of "kenosis" has a right and wrong understanding. Christ willingly set aside some of His attributes- as a Man. He did not cease to be God as God by His very nature cannot cease to be. God is "solitary" as A.W. Pink notes. This is also known as the Attribute of Aseity of God- self existence (Gen. 1:1, Ps. 90:2, John. 1:1-3) This is where kenosis- as I understand it- errors. Christ DID NOT empty Himself of His Deity! As a Man, He could be the perfect sacrifice for us. As God, He alone could atone for it. What other scripture would you provide that shows or teaches that Christ ceased to be God?
