1 | Midianites reappear? | Num 31:1 | Emmaus | 109036 | ||
Terry, The Midianites like the Hebrews were a nomadic people like the Hebrews. It is likely that they ranged over a wide area and not all the tribe and clans engaged with the hebrews. Here is a footnotew on Num 31:17 from the NAB bible. "There are later references to Midian in Jdgs 6-8; 1 Kings 11:18; Isaiah 60:6. The present raid was only against those Midianites who were dwelling at this time near the encampment of the Israelites." Emmaus |

Terry, Yes it does. But Joshua 13: 20-23 indicate that the Midianites who were wiped out were vassels of the Amorite knig, Shihon. Their lands were given to Rueben. We know the Midianites covered a much wider range in cluding the Sinai penninsulas because in Ex 6 we are told that Jethro, Moses father in kaw was the Midianit priest in Sinai. Moses married one of his daughters and was living with Jethro and tending his flocks when he saw the burning bush on Mt. Sinai. Emmaus |
