The word “devil” means someone who tells wicked lies about another person. “Satan” means an enemy or an opposer. These are terms given to God’s chief enemy. At first, he was a perfect angel in heaven with God. However, he later thought too much of himself and wanted the worship that rightly belongs to God.—Matthew 4:8-10. This angel, Satan, spoke to Eve by means of a snake. By telling her lies, he got her to disobey God. Satan thus attacked what is called God’s “sovereignty,” or position as the Most High. Satan questioned whether God rules in a worthy way and in the best interests of His subjects. Satan also brought into question whether any human would remain loyal to God. By doing this, Satan made himself God’s enemy. That is why he came to be called Satan the Devil.—Genesis 3:1-5; Job 1:8-11; Revelation 12:9 |

Dear BibleVerse, Over the years we notice that some forum participants prefer to use the words of others rather than invest the time, energy, and effort in smithing their own words. There's nothing inherently wrong with that. For example, bringing a particularly well written quote from someone with greater authority than our own can often be a valuable exercise for us all. Of course, when we fail to attribute to the rightful owner the words we use, it becomes a different matter. This is what is called plagiarism. Plagiarism is a fancy word for stealing. Its a bit worse than that, however, because it is also an effort to elicit admiration for prowess of intellect, creativity, and academic industry that rightly belongs to another. Consequently, this sort of behavior is rooted in violations of at least two and more probably three of the Ten Commandments; i.e., it is sin. Nothing rooted in sin will bring benefit, either to ourselves or to those around us. On the contrary, underhanded behavior can often detract from the argument. It brings doubt to our own character, as well as the character of the organizations to which we belong. I certainly understand your tenacious and unyielding embrasure of Russellism. That is your right. Some of the other Jehovah Witnesses might take umbrage at your using their words as your own. But that is a problem you'll need to address directly with them. Please, in the future, show greater respect for the Lord, the Lockman Foundation, and your fellow forum members by employing the highest standards of intellectual honesty that you can muster. However, you should understand that Russellism, at its very core, denies the diety of Christ. Consequently, any Russellite is being deceitful by obtaining a username here in the SBF. The terms of use are quite explicit. In Him, Doc |
