2 corinthians 2:6-9 Paul is refering to the congregational rebuke of a brother. Paul says it is time to frogive and comfort him so that he is not overcome with sorrow. I believe it speaks the same message as Ephesians 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Rebuke or chastening is not to ounish, but to teach, but there are some who long after the matter should be done continue to inflict with words of rejection until the 'lesson' learned is one of frustrated anger, bitterness, hopelessness.
